It normally takes around three days for your milk to come in and your breasts will start to feel full, and if you’re anything like I was post birth, you’ll cry and then cry some more, then you’ll stop crying, I promise.

If you’re concerned about your milk supply speak with a professional before hand, remember every pregnancy and every woman is different. What might work and be okay for one may not be right for the mama next door.

If you have serious concerns about your milk supply once baby arrives or feel unsure about anything, please speak to your midwife, nurse, doctor or lactation consultant to get a professional opinion.

Please don’t struggle in silence.
⁣
Also remember these smoothies aren’t going to work in boosting that milk supply until you’re close to delivery and/ or in the days following birth but they will be great at boosting your energy during pregnancy and definitely will help you following the birth to keep your energy levels up, keep your digestive tract moving and to generally make you feel a little bit better, which can only be a win win.

Are you vegetarian or vegan 🌱What are your favourite plant based sources of protein❓

Proteins are the building blocks for our body’s cells and that of our baby.

Not only are they crucial for building muscle 💪 and tissue, they’re also essential for hormone synthesis, hormones are the chemicals produced in your body by the glands and help to coordinate the activities that go on in our body everyday.

Many of these hormones are protein in nature, for instance oxytocin is a perfect example of hormonal protein which helps to stimulate the contractions during childbirth..

Many vegans and vegetarians already get plenty of protein from their diet but the key is to get a varied amount and a good range of the essential amino acids.

Excellent plant based protein sources include:
✔️ Eggs
✔️ Dairy products (such as milk, yogurt and cheese)
✔️ Some dairy-free alternatives (such as soy dairy-free alternative drinks and yogurts)
✔️ Beans and pulses, chickpeas, ✔️ kidney beans, soy beans and ✔️ lentils
✔️ Nuts and nut butters, peanut butter, almond butter and cashew, look for the ones that contain no palm oil and sugars
✔️ Tofu
✔️ Broccoli
In fact amazingly 100g of steak contains around 15g of protein with a 100g of broccoli containing around 12g

Did you know that half of all pregnant women suffer from constipation at some point during their pregnancy? 😫

I often draw from my own experiences – revealing the good, the bad and the darn right ugly and during previous posts I’ve made no secret in revealing the ugly side of the digestive health problems and discomfort I faced throughout my first pregnancy.

⚠️ TMI Alert 🚨
When I use the term ‘discomfort’ this is probably the most discreet and subtle term I can use, but there were days when I was too scared to sit on the loo for fear I might push that baby out 😱

If you’re struggling, I can totally sympathise 💛 don’t suffer in silence tho

Follow these Top Tips to help ease the back up

✔️ Increase your fibre – include as many vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains as you can.

✔️ When sourcing bread 🍞– stick with wholegrain always and if wholegrain flour isn’t listed as the first ingredient put that loaf back on the shelf and walk away. Bleached flour is not your friend ladies.

✔️ Eat little and often if you’re struggling

✔️ Stay away from any refined or modified foods (note above – avoid anything that contains bleached white flour which includes cereals and pastas too.

✔️ 💦 Keep your fluids up, try to get around 2 litres of water a day, especially in this heat. Doesn’t need to be water only, it can be fruit teas or any other means of fluid but just get as much as you can

✔️ DO NOT hold it in – if you have to go GO.
